We’ve discussed in-depth the benefits of being a member of, and active on, LinkedIn.

From their robust tools which can help you to network with coworkers, colleagues, friends, and family members to their job board with a plethora of job posts suited to your experience.

LinkedIn is perhaps the single best professional network and continues to help career-minded individuals in advancing their skills and contacts.

Furthermore, a whopping 35% of employers have indicated that they would be less likely or willing to interview a candidate that they cannot locate on social media.

Avoiding a social media presence, especially a professional one, could be hurting your chances at landing a coveted interview or advancing your career.

In addition, 52% of employers indicated that they use social media to assess a candidate before the initial interview.

“Researching candidates via social media and other online sources has transformed from an emerging trend to a staple of online recruitment,” said Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder.

“In a competitive job market, recruiters are looking for all the information they can find that might help them make decisions.

Rather than go off the grid, job seekers should make their professional persona visible online, and ensure any information that could dissuade prospective employers is made private or removed.”

Since most employers are already searching for you once you apply, you should try and make it as easy as possible for them to find you.

We’re going to list here how to put LinkedIn on resume and what steps you should take to ensure that your LinkedIn URL is customized and unique to your profile.

Before we jump in, the first thing you’re going to want to do is to update your LinkedIn profile to match your resume.

This should include any specific titles, dates, and companies.

In addition, you’ll want to ensure that all of the information, including your birthday, where you went to college, and your contact information is accurate.

Lastly, updating your profile picture with a professional headshot is paramount and can help you look more professional to potential employers.

Personalize Your LinkedIn URL

All LinkedIn members have their own, unique URL.

When entering that URL into your internet browser, you’ll be taken to your designated profile page.

However, these URL’s are oftentimes a scramble of letters and numbers that do not denote your profile.

You should go into your LinkedIn profile settings and update your URL to something uniquely yours.

  1. Go to Linkedin.com

2. Click on the ‘Me’ at the upper right-hand corner and click on ‘View Profile’

3. Click on ‘Edit public profile & URL’

4. To the top-right, click on the pencil icon and change your LinkedIn URL

Add Your LinkedIn URL To Your Resume

Now that you have a LinkedIn URL that is uniquely yours, you’ll want to add it in to your resume.

Ideally, your LinkedIn URL will be included alongside or adjacent to your personal information or your contact information.

You should look to have it immediately visible and prominently placed.

In addition, you will want to have your LinkedIn profile URL hyperlinked.

This means that it will be easily click-on and will direct the user to your profile, without the need for them to copy-and-paste into a separate tab.

To Include or Not To Include?

By-and-large yes, it is better and preferred to include your LinkedIn profile URL on your resume.

We have talked to countless recruiters and large employers and they have all indicated that a complete, professional LinkedIn page is a meaningful social media platform to be on.

As recruiters and employers will look you up online and on social media platforms, it is better to direct them to the page you want seen.

Rather than chance that they may not find you or that they may find another individual, it is better to guide them to your profile which has been customized and curated to your experiences.
