The ParaPro Assessment (ETS test 1755) measures the reading, mathematics, and writing skills of prospective and practicing paraprofessional educators, plus the ability to apply those skills to support classroom instruction. It is developed and administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service).[1] These free ParaPro practice questions and test prep mirror the current content structure so you practice the way the real exam is built[2] — pair these with our free study guide, flashcards.

Heads up: ETS is rolling out ParaPathways as the next-generation paraeducator assessment.

ETS has introduced the ParaPathways Assessmentas “the next generation of paraeducator assessment, building upon the foundation of the original ParaPro Assessment.”[7]On ETS’s state requirements, many states list the ParaPro (1755) as accepted through August 31, 2026 — meaning that effective September 1, 2026, those states accept only ParaPathways.[6]The ParaPro Assessment described on this page is still offered and is the current test for the 2025–26 testing year, so this practice test reflects it.

The transition is happening state by state, so confirm whether your state requires the ParaPro or ParaPathways before you register.[6] ParaPathways is split into two separately-timed subtests — Reading and Writing (5758) and Mathematics (5759) — and provides an on-screen four-function calculator. Its Reading, Math, and Writing fundamentals overlap heavily with the ParaPro, so this practice test remains useful prep for either test.[7]

What Is on the ParaPro Assessment?

The ParaPro Assessment covers three equally weighted subject areas — Reading, Mathematics, and Writing — with about 30 questions each, one-third of the 90-question test.[2]

Within each area, roughly two-thirds of questions test basic skills and knowledge and one-third test classroom application. Our full practice test mirrors this even split:

Use Start Test for a full weighted ParaPro simulation, or open the hub and pick a single subject area to drill your weak spot. After each full exam, your results show a per-section breakdown so you know exactly where to focus — many candidates need the most reps on Mathematics, which is taken with no calculator.

What Are the Requirements to Take the ParaPro?

There are no formal education or experience prerequisites to take the ParaPro Assessment — it is open to both prospective and currently working paraprofessionals.[1] Many states and school districts use it to satisfy paraprofessional qualification requirements, so confirm the specific score and documentation your state or employer expects before you register.

How Do You Register for the ParaPro?

You register for the ParaPro through the ETS portal at parapro.ets.org: create an account, choose a delivery option (a Prometric or other participating test center, at-home proctored testing, or a participating school district), pick a date, and pay the fee.[4]

The standard test-center and at-home fee is about $85, with some participating test centers around $55; rescheduling or retaking costs roughly $42.50, and extra score reports are $50 each.

What Is the Passing Score for the ParaPro?

There is no single national passing score for the ParaPro — each state, school district, or agency sets its own minimum, commonly in the ~456 to 464 range on the 420–480 scale.[5]

The ParaPro Assessment is reported on a scaled score range of 420 to 480. Scores are scaled so that a given number reflects the same skill level across test dates, and your raw number correct is converted to that 420–480 scale.

How Hard Is the ParaPro? (Pass Rate)

ETS does not publish an official ParaPro pass rate. Because the cut score is set independently by each state or district (not by ETS), results depend on which standard applies to you.[5] Candidates who master basic Reading, Math, and Writing skills at roughly an 11th–12th grade level and practice the classroom-application question style tend to do well.

The takeaway: the ParaPro is pitched at about an 11th–12th grade level, so the challenge is accuracy and pacing across 90 questions in 150 minutes — drill until you’re consistently scoring above your state’s cut on full-length practice before you book.

What to Expect on Exam Day

Arrive at your test center at least 15 minutes early to check in — bring a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID whose name matches your registration.[3] You’ll store phones and personal items; no notes or calculators are allowed, though scratch paper is provided for the Mathematics section.

A short tutorial precedes the exam, then you have 150 minutes to answer 90 selected-response questions across Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. If you test via at-home proctoring, expect a similar room check and ID scan.

ETS processes your results and posts your official scaled score to your account, typically within a couple of weeks. Having simulated the full timing with practice tests makes that clock feel routine.

How to Use This ParaPro Practice Test

  • Recreate exam conditions. Take the full test timed, with no notes and no calculator.[2]
  • Diagnose, then drill. Use a full ParaPro simulation to find weak sections, then drill them.
  • Prioritize Mathematics. No-calculator arithmetic, algebra, and geometry trip up the most people.
  • Learn the why. Read every explanation — understanding beats memorizing.
  • Answer everything. There’s no guessing penalty, so never leave a question blank.

Why Take the ParaPro?

The ParaPro Assessment is the most widely used way to demonstrate the academic skills many states and districts require for paraprofessional (teacher-aide) roles, often unlocking hiring and higher pay.[1] These free ParaPro practice tests are the most efficient way to get there.

Conclusion

Passing the ParaPro comes down to solid Reading, Mathematics, and Writing fundamentals plus the ability to apply them in the classroom. Use this free ParaPro practice test to find your weak sections, drill them to mastery, and walk in confident on test day. Round out your prep with our study guide, flashcards.
