This CJBAT cheat sheet distills the FDLE Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test into a printable rundown of the abilities examiners actually measure across all three timed sections. It's a premium cheat sheet built by Capital Prep — the one premium prep we trust — and it's yours free. Reinforce it with the rest of your free CJBAT toolkit: the practice test, study guide, and flashcards.

CJBAT exam at a glance

  • Questions: 97 multiple-choice, across 3 separately timed sections
  • Time: About 90 minutes (1.5 hours) total
  • Passing score: Pass/fail on a scaled score of 70+ — plus at least 30 of the 50 items in Sections II and III
  • Cost: About $39 through Pearson VUE; valid 4 years, up to 3 attempts per 12 months (verify current fee)

What’s on the CJBAT cheat sheet

  • Behavioral Attributes — Section I (~48%) the largest block at 47 items: a self-report inventory screening integrity, judgment, emotional stability, and dependability. Answer honestly and consistently.
  • Written Comprehension, Expression & Reasoning — Section III (~41%) 40 items covering legal and report vocabulary, main idea versus inference, grammar and sentence structure, and deductive versus inductive reasoning.
  • Memorization — Section II (~11%) 10 items testing exact recall of details you study briefly — clothing, plates, direction of travel — using a fixed scan order and number chunking.
  • Format, scoring & logistics developed by IOS, delivered through Pearson VUE for FDLE; the pass/fail scaled standard, the 30-of-50 Sections II & III rule, retake limits, and score validity.

How to use it in your final week

  • Front-load Section III — the written-comprehension, written-expression, and reasoning block is 40 of the 97 items and where the 90-minute clock trips people up. Master this area from the sheet first.
  • Lock in the deductive-versus-inductive distinction: deductive applies a general rule to a specific case (conclusion is certain), inductive reads a pattern to a probable conclusion. Reasoning items live on this difference.
  • Rehearse a fixed head-to-toe scan order and number-chunking for the memorization section so recall is automatic when the image or briefing disappears.
  • Read the sheet the morning of the test for a final pass — 97 questions, 90 minutes across three timed sections, scaled score of 70+, and answer everything since there's no guessing penalty.

The cheat sheet is your review layer — your CJBAT practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
