This RBT cheat sheet boils the BACB RBT Test Content Outline (3rd edition) down to a printable rundown of the facts the exam recycles most. It's a premium cheat sheet built by Capital Prep — the one premium prep we trust — and it's yours free. Reinforce it with the rest of your free RBT toolkit: the practice test, study guide, and flashcards.
RBT exam at a glance
- Questions: 85 multiple-choice (75 scored + 10 unscored pilot items)
- Time: 90 minutes, computer-based at a Pearson VUE center
- Passing score: Pass/Fail against a scaled cut score — the BACB publishes no fixed percentage
- Cost: $50 application fee + $45 exam fee (retakes $45), plus the required 40-hour training
What’s on the RBT cheat sheet
- Behavior Acquisition (25%) — reinforcement and schedules, discrete-trial and naturalistic teaching, chaining, prompting, shaping, and generalization — the single largest area.
- Behavior Reduction (19%) — the four functions, differential reinforcement (DRA/DRI/DRO/DRL/DRH), extinction and bursts, and antecedent interventions.
- Data Collection & Graphing (17%) — continuous vs. discontinuous measurement, interval-recording bias, line graphs, IOA, and procedural fidelity.
- Ethics (15%) — the RBT Ethics Code, scope of competence, supervision requirements, confidentiality, and multiple relationships.
- Documentation & Reporting (13%) — objective session notes, reporting to the supervisor, and the chain of command for data irregularities.
- Behavior Assessment (11%) — preference-assessment formats and the RBT's role participating in functional-assessment components.
How to use it in your final week
- Front-load Behavior Acquisition — it is 25% of the exam. If you master one area from the sheet, make it reinforcement, prompting, and chaining.
- Drill the measurement rules until they are reflexive: partial-interval overestimates, whole-interval underestimates, and momentary time sampling checks only at each interval's end.
- Rehearse the scope-of-practice line on every scenario — the RBT implements plans and participates in assessment components; designing or interpreting them is the BCBA's job.
- Pair each review pass with a short timed practice set (75 questions in 90 minutes ≈ 72 seconds each) so your pacing feels routine on test day.
The cheat sheet is your review layer — your RBT practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
RBT cheat sheet FAQ
Yes — the RBT cheat sheet downloads as a PDF with no sign-up and no account. It sits alongside Career Employer's free RBT practice test, study guide, and flashcards, so your whole prep stack costs nothing.
It condenses the six BACB content areas into a fast reference: measurement dimensions, the ABC contingency and functions, reinforcement schedules, prompting and chaining, differential-reinforcement procedures, and the RBT scope-of-practice rules — the facts examiners recycle most.
No — treat it as a memory layer, not a replacement for the 40-hour training or timed practice. Use it to lock in definitions and procedures, then confirm you can apply them by scoring high on full-length practice tests across all six areas.
It does not, because the BACB does not publish one. The RBT exam is pass/fail against a scaled cut score set by a standard-setting process, so the sheet focuses on mastering every content area rather than chasing a target number.
