This CHT cheat sheet boils the BONENT Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician exam down to the facts examiners test most, weighted by the five official domains. It's a premium cheat sheet built by Capital Prep — the one premium prep we trust — and it's yours free. Reinforce it with the rest of your free CHT toolkit: the practice test, study guide, and flashcards.

CHT exam at a glance

  • Questions: 150 multiple-choice
  • Time: 3 hours (180 minutes)
  • Passing score: Scaled score of 70 (on a 1–100 scale)
  • Cost: ~$255 CBT / ~$235 PPE (dated anchor — verify on the BONENT application); certification valid 4 years with a yearly fee

What’s on the CHT cheat sheet

  • Patient Care (45%) dialysis principles (diffusion, ultrafiltration, convection), vascular access and cannulation, fluid management and dry weight, intradialytic complications, and key labs — the largest domain by far.
  • Infection Control (18%) standard and dialysis-specific precautions, bloodborne pathogens, isolation for hepatitis B, and a clean, safe treatment environment.
  • Water Treatment (15%) the purification train (carbon tanks, reverse osmosis), AAMI chemical and microbiological limits, and dialyzer reprocessing.
  • Machine Technology (12%) the extracorporeal blood circuit, dialysate and conductivity, machine setup, and the alarms that protect the patient.
  • Education & Professional Development (10%) scope of practice, the care team, patient education, documentation, communication, and QAPI.

How to use it in your final week

  • Front-load Patient Care — it's 45% of the exam. If you master one domain from the sheet, make it dialysis principles, vascular access, fluid management, and complications.
  • Drill the diffusion-vs-ultrafiltration distinction until it's reflex: diffusion clears wastes (solute), ultrafiltration removes fluid (water) under transmembrane pressure.
  • Memorize the emergency responses cold — air embolism is left-lateral with head and chest down; hemolysis means stop, clamp, and don't return the blood.
  • Read the sheet the morning of the test, then take one timed practice set (150 questions in 3 hours ≈ 72 seconds each) to keep your pacing sharp.

The cheat sheet is your review layer — your CHT practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
