This CCMA cheat sheet boils the NHA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant blueprint down to the facts examiners test most, from all seven content categories. It's a premium cheat sheet built by Capital Prep — the one premium prep we trust — and it's yours free. Back it up with the rest of your free CCMA toolkit: the practice test, study guide, and flashcards.

CCMA exam at a glance

  • Passing score: 390 scaled (on a 200–500 range, ~78%)
  • Administered by: NHA — test center or live online proctoring

  • Recertification: 10 CE credits every 2 years

What’s on the CCMA cheat sheet

  • Clinical Patient Care (56%) vital-sign ranges, the six rights of medication administration, injection angles, infection control, order of draw, point-of-care testing, and EKG basics — the exam's dominant category.
  • Foundational Knowledge & Basic Science (10%) medical terminology (root + prefix + suffix), high-frequency abbreviations, basic pharmacology, and dosage math.
  • Patient Care Coordination & Education (8%) teach-back patient education, referrals, closing the loop, and care coordination.
  • Administrative Assisting (8%) scheduling methods, EHR records, and ICD-10-CM vs CPT coding and billing.
  • Communication & Customer Service (8%) therapeutic communication, active listening, and professional etiquette.
  • Anatomy & Physiology (5%) anatomical position, body planes, directional terms, and the major organ systems.
  • Medical Law & Ethics (5%) HIPAA and PHI, minimum necessary, scope of practice, and informed vs implied consent.

How to use it in your final week

  • Spend more than half your cram time on Clinical Patient Care — 56% of the exam (84 of 150 scored items). If you master one block on the sheet, make it vitals, phlebotomy, injections, and infection control.
  • Chant the order of draw until it's automatic — cultures, light blue, red/gold, green, lavender, gray — and pair each injection route with its angle: intradermal 10–15°, subcutaneous 45°, intramuscular 90°.
  • Skim the sheet the morning of the test for a last pass on the memory hooks — normal adult vitals, the six rights of medication administration, HIPAA minimum necessary, and two-identifier verification.
  • Don't review in a vacuum — follow each pass with a short timed practice set so the 3-hour, 180-question pacing feels routine on exam day.

The cheat sheet is your review layer — your CCMA practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
