This ASE L2 cheat sheet compresses the ASE Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis certification test into a printable rundown of the facts ASE tests most. It's a premium cheat sheet built by Capital Prep — the one premium prep we trust — and it's yours free. Reinforce it with the rest of your free ASE L2 toolkit: the practice test, study guide, and flashcards.

ASE L2 exam at a glance

  • Time: 120 minutes
  • Result: Pass/Fail, with a per-content-area performance breakdown
  • Cost: $34 registration per order + $124 per advanced-level test (verify at ase.com)

What’s on the ASE L2 cheat sheet

  • General Inspection & Diagnosis (4 of 45 — 9%) engine & vehicle ID FIRST, composite Vehicle (Type 4), strategy-based diagnosis (the L2 backbone).
  • Electronic Engine Controls Diagnosis (18 of 45 — 40%) the ECM system, SAE J1939 CAN data bus, DTC discipline.
  • Air Induction Systems Diagnosis (6 of 45 — 13%) turbocharger fundamentals, variable-geometry turbo (VGT), charge-air cooler (intercooler).
  • Fuel Systems Diagnosis (8 of 45 — 18%) high-Pressure Common Rail (HPCR), rail-pressure closed-loop control, electronic Unit Injector (EUI).
  • Emissions Systems Diagnosis (9 of 45 — 20%) aftertreatment TRAIN in order, DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst), DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

How to use it in your final week

  • Front-load Electronic Engine Controls Diagnosis — at 18 of the 45 scored questions it is about 40% of the test on its own, so if you master one section from the sheet, make it this one.
  • Then work Emissions Systems Diagnosis (9 of 45) — the sheet leads there with aftertreatment TRAIN in order.
  • Then work Fuel Systems Diagnosis (8 of 45) — the sheet leads there with high-Pressure Common Rail (HPCR).
  • Drill the reversal traps until they are reflex — the most commonly flipped one on this test is replacing the part the DTC names WITHOUT confirming with data.
  • Read the sheet the morning of your appointment for a last pass on the memory hooks, then answer every one of the 55 questions — 10 are unscored research items and you are not told which.

The cheat sheet is your review layer — your ASE L2 practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
