What’s on the ASCP MLS cheat sheet

  • Blood Banking (17–22%) ABO/Rh and other blood groups, antibody screen and panel, the DAT and IAT, compatibility and crossmatch, transfusion reactions, and HDFN.
  • Chemistry (17–22%) carbohydrates, lipids and proteins, enzymes and cardiac markers, electrolytes and acid-base, endocrine, TDM, and toxicology.
  • Hematology (17–22%) red cell indices and anemias, white cells and leukemias, hemostasis and coagulation (PT/INR, aPTT), and blood-smear morphology.
  • Microbiology (17–22%) specimen setup and Gram stain, Gram-positive and Gram-negative ID, susceptibility testing, and myco/viro/para/mycology.
  • Urinalysis & Body Fluids (5–10%) physical and chemical strip testing, microscopic sediment and casts, plus CSF and other body-fluid analysis.
  • Immunology (5–10%) immunoglobulins, Gell and Coombs hypersensitivity, autoimmunity, and serologic testing such as ANA.
  • Laboratory Operations (5–10%) quality control with Levey-Jennings and Westgard rules, proficiency testing, CLIA, lab math, and instrumentation.

How to use it in your final week

  • Front-load the big four — Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology are each 17–22% of the exam, roughly three-quarters of every question, so give them most of your review passes.
  • Drill the reflex facts until they're automatic — O negative is the universal red cell donor, DAT detects in vivo coating while IAT detects in vitro sensitization, and an acute hemolytic reaction means an ABO/ID error.
  • Practice correlating results to disease, not just recalling them — muddy-brown casts point to acute tubular necrosis, RBC casts to glomerulonephritis, and low CSF glucose with neutrophils to bacterial meningitis.
  • Pair each review pass with a short timed practice set so the 2-hour-30-minute clock and no-skip computer-adaptive format feel routine before test day.

The cheat sheet is your review layer — your ASCP MLS practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
