What’s on the AP Human Geography cheat sheet

  • Unit 1 · Thinking Geographically (8–10%) map types, scale of analysis, region types, the gravity model, distance decay, and GIS.
  • Unit 2 · Population & Migration (12–17%) the three densities, population pyramids, the Demographic Transition Model, and push-pull migration.
  • Unit 3 · Cultural Patterns & Processes (12–17%) cultural landscape, expansion vs relocation diffusion, and universalizing vs ethnic religions.
  • Unit 4 · Political Patterns & Processes (12–17%) nation vs state vs nation-state, boundary types, state shapes, and centripetal vs centrifugal forces.
  • Unit 5 · Agriculture & Rural Land Use (12–17%) subsistence vs commercial farming, the von Thünen rings, bid-rent, and the three agricultural revolutions.
  • Unit 6 · Cities & Urban Land Use (12–17%) central place theory, rank-size vs primate city, and the concentric, sector, and multiple-nuclei models.
  • Unit 7 · Industrial & Economic Development (12–17%) Weber's least-cost theory, HDI and other measures, and Rostow vs world-systems theory.

How to use it in your final week

  • Memorize the models cold — Demographic Transition Model stages, von Thünen rings, central place threshold-and-range, the concentric/sector/multiple-nuclei city trio, and Rostow versus world-systems. These recur across units and free-response prompts.
  • Front-load the six content units (2 through 7), each worth about 12–17% of the exam; Unit 1 is only 8–10%, so spend your last passes on population, culture, political, agriculture, urban, and development.
  • Read the sheet the morning of the exam for a fast pass on the vocabulary and the diffusion distinction (hierarchical vs contagious) — the traps examiners set most.
  • Pair each review pass with a short timed drill — 60 multiple-choice in 60 minutes is about one minute each — and rehearse one free-response answer so Section II (half your score) does not surprise you.

The cheat sheet is your review layer — your AP Human Geography practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
