- Naming the relationship first
- Stating the analogy link as a short sentence before reading the choices, so a related-but-wrong word can't trap you.

- Splitting a jumpy series
- Write the odd-position numbers and even-position numbers separately; each often follows its own simple rule.

- Check for a constant difference (add/subtract) first; if none fits, test for a constant multiplier.
