This AP Biology cheat sheet distills the College Board's eight-unit course into a printable rundown of what the multiple-choice and free-response sections test most. It's a premium cheat sheet built by Capital Prep — the one premium prep we trust — and it's yours free. AP Biology exam at a glance

  • Format: 60 multiple-choice (50%) + 6 free-response (50%)
  • Time: About 3 hours (90 min MCQ + 90 min FRQ)
  • Scoring: Scored 1–5; a 3 or higher generally earns college credit (no pass/fail)
  • Cost: Approximately $99 in the U.S. (about $129 internationally); verify at collegeboard.org
  • Administered by: College Board — once a year in May

What’s on the AP Biology cheat sheet

  • Natural Selection (13–20%) the single heaviest unit — natural selection and fitness, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, genetic drift and gene flow, and evidence for common ancestry.
  • Cellular Energetics (12–16%) enzymes and activation energy, photosynthesis (light reactions + Calvin cycle), and cellular respiration through chemiosmosis.
  • Gene Expression & Regulation (12–16%) semiconservative replication, the central dogma, the lac operon, epigenetic regulation, mutations, and biotech tools like PCR.
  • Cell Comm. & Cycle + Ecology (10–15% each) signal transduction, feedback loops, the cell cycle, plus energy flow, biogeochemical cycles, and population growth.
  • Cells, Chemistry of Life & Heredity (8–13% each) water and the four macromolecules, membranes and transport, endosymbiosis, meiosis, and Mendelian and non-Mendelian ratios.

How to use it in your final week

  • Front-load the three heaviest units — Natural Selection (13–20%), Cellular Energetics (12–16%), and Gene Expression (12–16%) — since together they can be nearly half the multiple-choice section.
  • Rehearse the two equations you get on the formula sheet but must apply fast: Hardy-Weinberg (p + q = 1 and p² + 2pq + q² = 1) and the 9:3:3:1 dihybrid ratio.
  • Read the sheet the morning of the exam for a final pass on the memory hooks — A–T and C–G pairing, the ~10% energy transfer rule, and the central dogma DNA → RNA → protein.
  • Pair each review pass with a short timed set from the practice test (60 MCQs in 90 minutes ≈ 90 seconds each) so your pacing and data-reading stay sharp.

The cheat sheet is your review layer — your AP Biology practice test drives the exam-readiness ring at the top of this page. Download it, review, then take a full practice exam (or drill with the study guide and flashcards) to see where you stand.
